I never thought I’d be doing newborn photography at Sherwood Island, as newborn sessions are traditionally indoors. But once the pandemic hit, I had a choice. I could either crumble with the changes or pivot and still find a way to create beautiful images (and capture memories) for my clients. And honestly, it’s been such an unexpected surprise-I have loved these outdoor newborn sessions.
As Collective members, this is my second session with this beautiful family. Earlier in the summer, we photographed their maternity session at Waveny Park. Mom wanted to continue their theme of everyone in white and I loved it! We chose different fabrics and textures for both her dress and big sister so that it didn’t feel like they were wearing the same thing. I loved how it all came together, especially against the rich greens at Sherwood Island Park.
This sweet boy was an absolute dream to photograph. He was so content in his swaddle and loved to be held or in the Moses basket. I don’t use a lot of “props” for my newborn sessions, but I have found that the Moses basket allows me to get some variety (especially of just baby) but also gives parents some comfort instead of just having baby on the ground. Not to mention, it’s absolutely precious for sibling photos.
Big sister was SO excited and I loved hearing all about her baby brother. She loved to give kisses, and in between wanted Mom and Dad to swing her or Daddy play airplane. And it’s these moments that aren’t as easy to capture during traditional studio or in-home newborn sessions.
