Beautiful Outdoor Newborn Session in Family’s Backyard | Darien, CT

I am so excited to share this beautiful outdoor newborn session with you from this past summer. When I was looking back over all the families I had the opportunity to serve in 2020, I realized there were a few sessions I still needed to blog! First up, this family that I have come to adore!

Catherine had reached out to me at the end of 2019 after their family moved from New York City to Darien. They decided to join us for the KWP Santa Experience. Perry wasn’t so sure about Santa but thankfully was okay with Mom and Dad signing up for the First Year Collective to document her baby sister’s first year!

Little did we know what was just around the corner with Covid.

Two months into it, they celebrated the birth of their baby girl, Samantha!

Newborn Photography During Covid

No matter how hard I try, I am not sure I’ll ever understand what it’s been like for all of the families that have welcomed their babies into this world during the pandemic. And while I know newborn photography isn’t necessarily at the top of the list of priorities during a pandemic, I also know there has been a greater sense of need to have photos with your loved ones.

I am thankful that my families have trusted me to be able to adjust and still create beautiful art for them despite it not being “typical.” It’s in these moments that I’ve found I am more creative and there is more to their photos…now more than ever. One day when Samantha is older and she looks back on her newborn photos, her parents will tell her that they were taken in her backyard in the home she came home to in Darien.

Can you imagine the stories they will be able to tell her? Yes, many of them hard. But it’s my hope that the photos we have created together during this time can counter the hard with just a little bit of joy.
