There is a photo from this family beach session in Westport at Sherwood Island that stopped me as I was editing. It wasn’t a photo I took intentionally, but one of those in-between moments of Mama and her baby girl. I shared it on Instagram with the following caption:
“Motherhood is full of highs and lows. It’s days where you count down the minutes until bedtime only to lay in bed missing your baby. It’s balancing career and family. It’s constantly thinking of someone else first. It’s celebrating every milestone and crying in the corner because your baby is growing up way too fast. It’s the best, hardest job in the world, and it’s my honor to capture these moments for my clients. I promise you will want to remember these days forever.”
All of these things are true. I experience it as both a mom and a photographer. I don’t encourage documenting milestone sessions as a way to book more sessions. I do it because I KNOW how important it is. I know how quickly time goes. I know that on their 8th birthday you’ll find yourself looking back at all of their baby photos (that may or may not have been me recently!).
From this sweet girl’s backyard newborn session to her milestone session on the beach, she has grown so much. Her family has grown so much. And my gosh, she couldn’t be any more adorable!

I am so excited that we are working on filling the walls of their home with their beautiful family portraits. As their girls grow up, they’ll be able to see themselves and the memories they have created with each other and Mom and Dad over the years.
